

In 1954, the first Church of Scientology was formed in Los Angeles, and shortly after more were formed across the world. In April 1953, Hubbard wrote a letter proposing that Scientology should be transformed into a world renowned religion. Only after discovering this information, did Hubbard publicly explain the meaning of Scientology. After years of research, Hubbard believed that the human person is a spiritual being rather than a physical and psychological one. Dianetics is a spiritual healing technology and an organized science of thought that frees individuals of past traumatic experiences. He described it as “the study of knowing how to know.” However, he decided against publishing the book because he felt that he must further pursue the subject of Dianetics.

The term Scientology was first discovered in “Excalibur”, a 1938 manuscript he had written. Ron) Hubbard was the founder of Scientology. It is my belief that Scientology is a cult. According to Merriam- Webster, a cult is defined as a “ small religious group that is not part of a larger and more accepted religion and that has beliefs regarded by many people as extreme or dangerous.” Merriam-Webster also defines religion as “the service and worship of God or the supernatural” as well as “the commitment or devotion to religious faith or observance”.
